Project Voltage (also known as PokéMiku)
Was a collaboration between Pokémon and Hatsune Miku, in which many artists and Vocaloid producers were commissioned to create artwork and songs about Pokémon and Miku, sampling pieces from Pokémon soundtracks. The first illustration released September 4th, 2023 and the first song was released September 29th, 2023.
Disc 1 - DREAM
Volt Tackle - DECO*27
As with many of DECO*27's more recent songs this one is super catchy and cute but not particularly notable or interesting. I like it, don't get me wrong, but it's nowhere near my favorite on this album. (Click for Music Video)
Electricity Forecast - inabakumori
I really wish this one had a proper PV because it's really fun! I love how inabakumori tunes Miku, I think it's super interesting and fun to listen to. I think his songs often use the less human-sounding side of Vocaloid to their full potential and it's fun as hell. (Click for Music Video)
GO! Team Bidoof - WONDERFUL★OPPORTUNITY!
I think like many of WONDERFUL★OPPORTUNITY!'s songs this one is silly and cute. I admit I am a bit Bidoofed out and I feel like the "Bidoof God" meme was pushed a bit too hard by The Pokemon Company, so perhaps I do not appreciate this one as much as a true Bidoofhead would. (Click for Music Video)
Psychic Psychic - NayutalieN
I like this about as much as I love NayutalieN's other music, which is a solid amount but I'm not frothing at the mouth or anything. The little breakdown section about halfway through is really interesting and I like it, but the rest is kind of unmemorable. (Click for Music Video)
I'm a Ghost Type - syudou
I am in fact a sucker for anything that uses the Lavender Town BGM, so I do love this song a lot. This is really catchy and the constant beeping of Lavender Town in the background is suuuuuch a classic "scary Pokemon" move. The PV for this is also sooo cool, I love the creepy art style and jittery animation + glitch effects. I lose it for this sort of thing every time. (Click for Music Video)
MELLOMELLOID - Kairiki Bear
This one is fun!! I love how it uses the more "scary" parts of fairy types to demonstrate the unhealthy, obsessive love of the singer. The artwork for this one is also SUPER cute with a very good color palette. Kairiki Bear pretty much never misses to be quite honest. (Click for Music Video)
Awoo~ - Yuri Kuriyama
I love the use of MEIKO, because I think her voice is super cool and scratches my brain very nicely, but overall this song is meh for me. The music video is cool, I love the art style and muted colors, but overall nothing about this song is crazy to me. (Click for Music Video)
Fly With You - Tota Kasamura
FUCK this is so cute. The music video and song are both so bittersweet and adorable! I also love the choice to pretty much only sample Littleroot Town. The piano arrangement makes it feel so cohesive, like these were the lyrics Littleroot Town was meant to have all along. It's not the sort of thing I usually listen to, but this song is really beautiful. (Click for Music Video)
Eon Ticket - marasy
Aaah I love this song. It reminds me of flying, I love the piano and the trills, it's the sort of song that makes me want to run around. I love the use of windchimes, too. Can't get enough of chimes. (Click for Music Video)
The Pokémon Inside My Heart - Pinocchio-P
THIS SONG IS SO GOOD. Pinocchio-P never disappoints, but this one is really, really beautiful. The music video is amazing too, really made me tear up... Pokémon has really been with me through everything... Pokémon connects us all. Pinocchio-P you've done it again... (Click for Music Video)
Volt Tackle (Jewel Remix) - DECO*27
I think this is generally a pretty big improvement over the original! The buildup to the chorus feels a lot "bigger", if that makes sense. I like how it gets funkier with the sound effects! (Click for Music Video)
Disc 2 - ADVENTURE
JUVENILE - Jin
I cannot express my love for this song enough!!! It is so transgender, I think... I got goosebumps at the end of the music video when Miku puts her hair up for the first time... JUVENILE is my favorite song on Project Voltage and it's not even close. (Click for Music Video)
What Kind of Future - MitchieM
I do like how catchy this is, and MitchieM's tuning is impressive as always, but I don't think it's super memorable generally... Overall nothing super crazy here I just think the song is alright. (Click for Music Video)
I GOT YOU! - Giga
This one had to grow on me, for sure, but the sound isn't really my thing, for the most part. The bridges aren't super memorable. The chorus is really fun, I love the mixing between the three Vocaloids and the music video is really cute! But it feels like it drags on. (Click for Music Video)
Battle! (Hatsune Miku) - cosMo@bousouP
This song, like most of Cosmo's work, sounds like something that would have me sweating in Chuunithm. I really love the use of sound effects in this one, even though they are once again mostly from Kanto. It sounds like a battle theme with lyrics! (Click for Music Video)
PARTY ROCK ETERNETY - HachiojiP
TEAM ROCKET SONG! It's not really my style but I appreciate it a lot! According to the Japanese comments, the lyrics have some Team Rocket references too, but they're in Japanese obviously so I don't quite understand the context as well as I would like... (Click for Music Video)
Champion - Kanaria
The Cynthia song, of course... I think this one is really good. It's fun, the lyrics are read like she's calling out attack names, it catches the feeling of dread you feel as a kid going against a tough champion for the first time! (Click for Music Video)
Encounter - Orangestar
It sounds nostalgic like most Orangestar songs do... but I'll be real as much as I love the music in this one I really don't like Miku's tuning. It switches between "muffled" and "high-pitched whistle" sounding too much for my liking. (Click for Music Video)
Journey's Prequels, Journey's Traces - iyowa
THIS SONG IS SO CUTE. You gotta watch the music video, it's adorable. Really captures the feeling I had as a kid when I was pretending Pokemon were real. It's such a sweet song about being a kid and being torn between wanting to grow up or not, I think...? (Click for Music Video)
Glorious Day - Eve
EVE!!! Ough, this is one of my favorites for sure. I'm so glad SOMEONE in this damn project used the amazing Miku designs from it! The choice to pretty much only use champion battle music makes the song really cohesive as well! (Click for Music Video)
After Epochs - sasakure.UK
I am once again ecstatic that the music video uses the Project Voltage Miku designs- in such a cute art style, too! I love the cameos of all the game protagonists, and sasakure.UK has such a distinct style that I love. (Click for Music Video)
